CTC 142 – Love and Sympathy and Brightly Lit Christmas

Hi everyone.  Welcome to CTC 142 – Love and Sympathy and Brightly Lit Christmas!

Wait what??????

Yes, this week we are taking a look at the Love and Sympathy Section on pages 86 – 101 of the Annual Catalogue.

And I finally did it….I finally chose to do a little christmas with my card making using the – you guessed it – Brightly Lit Christmas Bundle.

I haven’t seen that bundle I hear you say – you would be right again!  It’s one of our Brand New products in the upcoming Holiday Catalogue. And I’m just a sucker for a good framelit – so it was in my ‘must have’ lists (one of the great perks of being a demo is playing with the new stuff before anyone else!)

The base for my card design this week was using the Tranquil Tide card image on the bottom right of page 94 of the catalogue –

It was a bit different for a Christmas Card, and I must admit – I decided not to make a traditional Christmas Card either.  You see, I have a few friends that like ‘non-traditional’ cards and Christmas is no exception.  So I chose Black and White and silver!

CTC142 Brightly Lit Christmas in Non Traditional Colours by My Paper Oasis

It was a bit tricky to get a good pic of this card, but I layered up the lamppost by cutting the framelits 3 times in Basic Black before adding the last layer of Silver Foil.  The Fine Tip Glue Pen works really well when applying this technique.  Doing this really makes the Lamppost pop right off the card and give it a 3D effect.

And did you know our Merry Music DSP is actually the music for the Christmas Carols! I have a little musician in the house, so we thought that was a pretty cool touch to add to the Designer Paper!

I am a pretty traditional girl myself, so I can’t say I’m 100% sure about the non traditional look! What do you think?

Now it’s time to hop over to Kathryn’s blog and take a look at what she has created this week!

Happy Creating!

CTC 141 – Birthday Foil Frenzy Pretty Packaging

A big hello to all our regular CASEing the Catty blog hoppers and a warm welcome to those who are new!

CASEing the Catty is a weekly hop, where every Sunday the design team showcases projects from a particular section of the catalogue by Copying And Sharing (CASEing) with you how they have used the design and changed elements, colours, textures or anything else to make it their own.

This week we are focusing on the Birthdays Section of the Catalogue on Pages 68 – 85.

I decided to use the image on Page 76 this week to create some Birthday Foil Frenzy Pretty Packaging using this as the basis for my design –

Have you noticed our gorgeous Foil Frenzy Designer Series Paper in the catalogue?  It is hard to miss with all it’s beautiful sparkle in 4 different colours and 3 beautiful designs!  But just in case – you will find it on page 77 or 189 of the Annual Catalogue.

It is perfect for creating pretty packaging – so thats exactly what I did!

CTC 141 Birthday Foil Frenzy Pretty Packaging By Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis

I chose to use the Soft Sky Spotted Page for my project as it coordinated well with the Birthday Memories Designer Series Paper, not to mention the gorgeous Pool Party Shimmer Ribbon – Oh My Goodness – It’s so soft and smooth – I LOVE it!  I cut out my favourite bear image and touched up some areas like the balloons, hat and bears noses, with the Fine Tip Glue Pen to add some extra shine.

The Pool Party strip of Cardstock under the tag was finished with the Ticket Tear Border Punch for a bit of added fun!

Creating boxes is pretty easy really!  My top was created by trimming 1/2″ of two sides (with an adjoining corner) of the 12″ x 12″  foil frenzy sheet.  I then scored all four sides at 2″ before folding on score lines, cutting one of the score lines in each corner, folding in and adhering the tabs to the inside panels.  To create a base that fits perfectly, just trim an extra 1/8″ off two sides again from the box base piece, score at 2″, cut tabs as before and adhere to create your box base.  It really does save all that measuring!

Here is a close up of the tag –

I do hope I have encouraged you to try and create some of your own gorgeous birthday or gift boxes!

CTC 140 – Babies, Kids and Pocketful of Sunshine

Welcome to CTC 140, where this week the crew are taking inspiration from cards in the Babies and Kids section of the Annual catalogue, on pages 102 – 111.

Such a fun section of the catalogue to CASE!

This week I really wanted to show you that even though we are using the Babies and Kids section – you don’t necessarily have to make a babies and kids project.  You can take inspiration from any designs in the catalogue and create them to suit your need.

So here is the image I used this week –

You may remember last time I played along with this category, I CASEd the card on the right!  This week, I am CASEing the card on the left.

I hadn’t inked up my Pocketful of Sunshine yet and was dying to get it out for a play!  For this challenge I teamed it with Beautiful Bouquet Bundle and created this card –

CTC 140 - Pocketful of Sunshine and Beautiful Bouquet by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis

Instead of stamping onto the background, I pulled out our gorgeous Embossing Paste for a bit of extra fun and texture to the card.

White craft ink gave me the stitching on the pocket and as much as I love the sentiments in the Beautiful Bouquet set, I decided to leave this one blank for now, so I can pop on a sentiment when I decide the destination of the card 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this weeks creation.  Don’t forget to hop all the way around and come back and upload your design to our Facebook Page HERE.

Now its time to pop over to the lovely Simone Bartrum and see what she has created for you all!

Happy Creating!

It’s Sunday night – so that means it’s time for another fabulous CASEing the Catty Blog Hop!  The crew hop every Sunday Night, sharing their inspiration taken from select pages / categories in the current catalogues.

CASEing (Copy and Share Everything) is a great way to gain inspiration and use as a springboard for your own creativity.  So take the hop, be inspired and join our Facebook Page so you can inspire us with YOUR project!

This week we are focusing on the Everyday Occasions Section on pages 18 – 67.

Pick a Pattern Shaker Card

This week I decided to CASE one of my favourite cards in this section.  I have been wanting to do it for a while – so this was the perfect opportunity.

See that Green shaker card in the top left corner – yep – that’s the one I had fun with this week!

I was initially going to replicate the card using those fun images from the Designer Series Paper (DSP).  But then another sheet in the collection caught my eye.  You see – I need to make a Welcome card for a new team member (one of my favourite things to create!) – and this DSP pack has a very ‘crafty’ sheet in it.  Perfect for this new member, who loves to craft!

So here is my version of this shaker card:

CTC 139 - Pick a Pattern Shaker Card by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Stampin Up DSP.

It’s a good thing that I love fussy cutting!!!

The Pick a Pattern DSP means you can create lots of different cards simply by purchasing a pack of the DSP.  It has lots of different elements you can cut and use for Cardmaking and scrapbooking for lots of different occasions – camping, dinosaurs, crafts, photography and more! That’s why it has become a favourite DSP of mine this year.

I hope you have enjoyed my take on this card this week.  Now it’s time to hop on over to Megan’s page and see what she has created for you 🙂

Don’t forget – you only have one more day to take advantage of our Bonus Days Promotion and our fantastic Joining Special!

CTC 138 – Holidays for This Little Piggy

Welcome to CASEing the Catty Challenge 138!

This week we are agin taking a look around the Holidays section of the Annual Catalogue on Pages 112 – 125.

CTC138

And Nope – I’m still not ready for Christmas!!! Lol.  But I did love an image on Page 112 that I used as a base to design my card – the card right on the top of that stand –

CTC138

Here’s a closer look for you!

CTC138

I loved all those layers – but I repeat – still not ready for Christmas, so my version used one of the cutest new stamps ever – This Little Piggy! Those piggies remind me so much of Charlotte’s Web.  I knew they would be on my must have list as soon as I saw them!  So here is my version for this card layout –

My Little Piggy by Stampin Up for CTC 138 with Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis. Fantastic layout for fences, hills and piggies frolicking in the yard.

I used dimensionals between the layers to really make the hills stand apart.  Because I used a dimensional between the first and second hill, and then again between the second and third hill, you will need to remember to stack two dimensionals on top of each other when attaching the card front to the card base.

My Little Piggy by Stampin Up for CTC 138 with Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis. Fantastic layout for fences, hills and piggies frolicking in the yard.

Here’s a side on view so you can really see the layers at work!  And what do you think of our Dynamic Textured Embossing Folders!  I have used Ruffled on this card.  They really do add that bit of extra dimension to your cards!

And a quick peak at the simple inside if you are wondering what ‘this little piggy’ has to say –My Little Piggy by Stampin Up for CTC 138 with Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis. Fantastic layout for fences, hills and piggies frolicking in the yard.

They are little kisses around the sentiment which are included in the stamp set!

Well I do hope you have enjoyed this fun take on a Christmas Card!  Make sure you continue the hop and see all the other inspiration from the crew and then add your own creation to our Facebook Page HERE.

Now it’s time to hop on over to Krissy’s Page to see what she has created for you all!

CTC 137 – Artistic Expression with Rose Wonder

Hi everyone and welcome back to CTC 137.

You may have noticed that I missed last weeks hop.  That’s because I was away on my very first cruise having an absolutely amazing time and a much needed break!  But I am back and ready to go!

I also wanted to say a very big WELCOME and CONGRATS to our new crew members! I am looking forward to playing along with you and all the amazing upcoming guest designers!

This week we are taking our inspiration from the Artistic Expression Section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 132 – 181.

There are LOADS of images to spark creativity this week, so I do hope you play along and upload your creations to our Facebook page HERE!

I found it so difficult this week to choose just one project.  This is one of my favourite sections of the catalogue, with a load of my favourite products to play with.  So in the end, I chose to CASE an image on page 162, using the Rose Wonder Stamp Set, to play with a technique I haven’t used in a while.

This technique is called the Stained Glass Technique using Vellum.

You first stamp and heat emboss an image on the vellum, the turn it over and colour the image on the back of the vellum, creating a stained glass look.  You can colour with markers or sponge the image for the look you desire.  I chose to colour mine with our Stampin Write Markers using Calypso Coral, Watermelon Wonder (retired), Pear Pizzaz and Wild Wasabi.

Stained Glass Technique for CTC 137 using Rose Wonder by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis

I use the different shades of colour to create depth in the image coloured and then mounted the vellum on Whisper White Card to really highlight the colouring.  I then HAD to add some of our new Calypso Coral Ombre Ribbon and some Gold 1/8″ Ribbon and mini sequin trim for some extra sparkle!

It’s a pretty cool technique, so I encourage you to give it a try. It works best on ‘open’ stamps that allow to to apply a fair amount of colour.

Now it’s time to head on over to the lovely Elizabeth and see what she has created for you all!

CTC 135 – Holidays – In This World

Hi everyone and welcome to CASEing the Catty 135, where every Sunday night the crew share ways in which they have Copied And Selectively Edited (CASE) images and projects from the Catalogue.

This week we are focusing on the Holidays Section and Pages 112 – 125.

Now I don’t know about you – But I am DEFINITELY not ready for Christmas just yet!!!! So even though most of the projects are Christmas themed, I just used the image on Page 121 as a springboard for a completely Non Christmassy Card, using our In This World Stamp Set.

This card really grabbed by attention because of all the lovely layers, and I know layering works really well with the In This World Stamps.  However, the colours didn’t, so I changed them up!

In This World for CTC 135 Holidays section by My Paper Oasis

I copied some of the layering elements from the original card then added some of my own extra elements.

It’s super hard to see on the photo, but that butterfly is actually heat embossed with Pool Party Ink and looks so much prettier in life, adding just the right amount of subtle colour!

You can heat emboss any colour you have really.  Just ink up in Versamark first, the ink straight into your chosen colour pad, then sprinkle with clear embossing powder and heat set.  Neat trick huh!

And those tiny black dots are actually our new mini sequins!  Even though they are super small, you can still seperate them and add them to your card base with a little tombow adhesive. In This World for CTC 135 Holidays section by My Paper Oasis

Once you have taken the hop and feel all inspired, don’t forget to create your own work of art and join the challenge by uploading the pic directly to our Facebook Page!

Now it’s time to hop on over to the lovely Kelly Kent and see what gorgeous project she has created for you all!

CTC 134 – No Bones About It Babies and Kids

Welcome to the next CTC blog hop, where this week we CASE (Copy And Share Everything or Copy And Selectively Edit) from the ‘babies and kids’ section of the Annual Catalogue.

Today I am CASEing the project on page 109 of the catalogue using the No Bones About It Stamp set.  Just the stamp set you need for any dinosaur lover – which just happens to be my nephew who needed a birthday card 🙂

I love the card on the right hand side.  If I don’t have a piece of designer paper that suits my needs then I just pick a stamp set and create my own.

Have you ever tried it?  It really is a lot of fun and makes it quick and easy to complete a set of cards all at once.

Simply choose the colours and imagery you want, then set to work randomly stamping the images on an A4 piece of whisper white card stock.  Cut it up to create four card fronts! It really is that easy.  Here is what I created this week…

CTC 134 - No Bones About It for babies and kids by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis. Use any set from Stampin' Up!s range to create your very own designer series paper backgrounds.

This first card has just a couple of extra elements like the background coordinating colour behind the sentiment, as well as a couple of fussy cut leaves and a dinosaur on dimensionals for a bit of extra fun!

My second card uses the same background, but has a different feel when the extra elements and the background colours are changed…

CTC 134 - No Bones About It for babies and kids by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis. Use any set from Stampin' Up!s range to create your very own designer series paper backgrounds.

So from one sheet of whisper white, I was able to make these four cards of two different designs.  You could change it up even more and have a different colour background for all four.

One sheet – four cards, 2 designs.  It’s that simple!

Pop on over to see my you tube video HERE on how I created this background paper and others :-)

Try it with any stamp set at all.  Baby, flowers, insects, artsy…whatever you desire!

CTC 133 – Love and Sympathy with Magical Mermaid

It’s time for another CASEing the Catty!

This week we are CASEing the Love and Sympathy Section of the New Catalogue on pages 86 – 101.

If we are CASEing the Love and Sympathy section how can you be using Magical Mermaid I hear you ask!  Well remember that CASEing the Catty means to Copy And Share Everything (or Copy And Selectively Edit).  That means we can take inspiration for ANYTHING in those catalogue pages – stamps, layouts, colours, backgrounds, boxes…..anything!

And that means you can too!!!  So take the hop, be inspired, create your own and hop on over to our Facebook page to upload your design straight to the wall – no blog necessary!

I took lots of inspiration this week from the multiple backgrounds that you can find on lots of the cards in this section this week.

Take a look – the backgrounds to lots of the cards are either stamped, sponged, embossed or watercoloured – just like this one ….

So I decided to make a background worthy of setting off a gorgeous mermaid!  My daughter is all about flamingos…before that, it was unicorns, but  I LOOOVVEEEEE Mermaids – they’re kind of my thing.

CTC 133 - Love and Sympathy using Magical Mermaid by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis, watercolored backgrounds, stampin up, embossing paste

I began by watercoloring on a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock using Pool Party, Pacific Point and Emerald envy reinkers.  I then used the ‘waves’ die from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlets to cut a mask so I could use a sponge dauber, versamark and clear embossing powder to mimic the movement of the ocean in the water coloured background. You have to do this a few times! Over that I stamped the seaweed image in versamark and heat set with white embossing powder. I then went back and dropped small blobs (technical term) water over the image, let it sit for a minute before patting off with paper towel

One of the most fun parts though was colouring the embossing paste with a crumb cake reinker and smearing it along the base of the card. Once it had dried I stamped right over the top of it with the Soft Suede ink … did you know you could do that?  It does have to be reasonably smooth to get a good image.

My mermaids tail is also watercoloured using just the Emerald Envy and Pacific Point reinkers.  Even though it was stamped onto Shimmery White cardstock, I still felt it could do with more shimmer. So I hit it with the clear Wink of Stellar Pen before covering it with the Fine Tip Glue Pen and letting it dry!  The result is amazing!!!

CTC 133 Love and Sympathy using Magical Mermaid by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis, Stampin' Up!, watercoloring, embossing paste

Not even this picture can do it justice!  I need to play with more colours – so I’m sure you will see more of this lovely new stamp from me!

Now it’s time to hop on over to the lovely Julia Quinn to see what she has created for you all!

Happy Crafting 🙂

CTC 132 – Birthdays

A big hello to you all and welcome to CASEing the Catty Challenge #132, where this week we get to CASE the birthday section of the catalogue!

Everyone has birthdays (whether they want to or not! Lol), so this is a great way to hop around and see everyone’s projects so creating your own birthday cards is a breeze!

I had to create a special 50th birthday card this week for a friend.  Not only is she a friend, but she is also my downline and loves card making too (Yes Lynda – this one is for you!).  I don’t know about you, but I find they are always the trickiest people to create cards for! And a 50th has to be a pretty special card.

I was struggling with just what to create, when I picked up my catalogue and started flicking through the birthday section.  On page 80 I came across this image …

Now I know it’s not exactly a birthday card, but I love 3D cards for those ‘special’ birthdays – so this got me thinking and playing around with ideas, when my mind was drawn back to a gorgeous creation I had seen by none other than one of our very own crew members – Bronwyn Eastley!  She had made a stunning foldable card using the (now retired) Botanical Blooms and the Window Box Dies.

You can see her original post HERE with the link to see how the card is made.

As much as I love those Botanical Blooms, I wanted to use one of my most favourite floral current products – Tranquil Tulips (yes…again…)!

CTC 132 - Birthdays by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Hostess Set Tranquil Tulips by Stampin' Up!

If there is one downfall with this set – its that there is no matching framelits 🙁 So let me tell you ….there was a LOT of fussy cutting!  It’s just as well that I actually like to fussy cut (just ask my class ladies! Some are not so fond of it as me! Lol). You will definitely need a good pair of scissors for this one!

There was even more fussy cutting than you would expect, because I made the tulips appear more 3D by cutting and adhering the top layer of the stamp on the front of each image.

CTC 132 - Birthdays by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using hostess set Tranquil Tulips by Stampin' Up!

It looked sooooo pretty in real life! I was really happy with how it turned out! And – it folds flat for popping in an envelope and posting!

Did you know that Stampin’ Up! have an extra special opportunity to get this Hostess set this month?  Host a qualifying workshop, party or place and order of $450 and you get an EXTRA $45 in rewards! That’s at total of at least $90 to spend on anything you like!!! Contact your local demonstrator to find out more!

Now it’s time to hop on over to the lovely Kelly Kent and see what beautiful project she has to share with you all!

Happy Crafting!!!!
