CTC 132 – Birthdays

A big hello to you all and welcome to CASEing the Catty Challenge #132, where this week we get to CASE the birthday section of the catalogue!

Everyone has birthdays (whether they want to or not! Lol), so this is a great way to hop around and see everyone’s projects so creating your own birthday cards is a breeze!

I had to create a special 50th birthday card this week for a friend.  Not only is she a friend, but she is also my downline and loves card making too (Yes Lynda – this one is for you!).  I don’t know about you, but I find they are always the trickiest people to create cards for! And a 50th has to be a pretty special card.

I was struggling with just what to create, when I picked up my catalogue and started flicking through the birthday section.  On page 80 I came across this image …

Now I know it’s not exactly a birthday card, but I love 3D cards for those ‘special’ birthdays – so this got me thinking and playing around with ideas, when my mind was drawn back to a gorgeous creation I had seen by none other than one of our very own crew members – Bronwyn Eastley!  She had made a stunning foldable card using the (now retired) Botanical Blooms and the Window Box Dies.

You can see her original post HERE with the link to see how the card is made.

As much as I love those Botanical Blooms, I wanted to use one of my most favourite floral current products – Tranquil Tulips (yes…again…)!

CTC 132 - Birthdays by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Hostess Set Tranquil Tulips by Stampin' Up!

If there is one downfall with this set – its that there is no matching framelits 🙁 So let me tell you ….there was a LOT of fussy cutting!  It’s just as well that I actually like to fussy cut (just ask my class ladies! Some are not so fond of it as me! Lol). You will definitely need a good pair of scissors for this one!

There was even more fussy cutting than you would expect, because I made the tulips appear more 3D by cutting and adhering the top layer of the stamp on the front of each image.

CTC 132 - Birthdays by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using hostess set Tranquil Tulips by Stampin' Up!

It looked sooooo pretty in real life! I was really happy with how it turned out! And – it folds flat for popping in an envelope and posting!

Did you know that Stampin’ Up! have an extra special opportunity to get this Hostess set this month?  Host a qualifying workshop, party or place and order of $450 and you get an EXTRA $45 in rewards! That’s at total of at least $90 to spend on anything you like!!! Contact your local demonstrator to find out more!

Now it’s time to hop on over to the lovely Kelly Kent and see what beautiful project she has to share with you all!

Happy Crafting!!!!

We have a fantastic colour challenge this week to get you started! Full of pretty pastels! Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum, So Saffron, Tempting Turquoise and Peekaboo Peach!  Pick at least three – or up to all six! Neutrals are welcome – black, white, vanilla, crumb cake, kraft and sahara sand!

What a gorgeous colour palette to begin playing with!

I initially started by making a watercolour wash on some shimmery white to mimic the sky, using tempting turquoise, so saffron and blushing bride, which I planned to pair with our new Lift Me Up Bundle. But once I had it completed I instantly went back to my childhood – enjoying a cone with lovely gelato ice-cream flavours! You know…the kind you don’t seem to be able to find anymore!  Well, lucky for me Saleabration has the perfect set for me to use! Yep, out came Tasty Trucks to create my gelato heaven!

I gave the truck a light wash of mint macaron and sweet sugarplum and then cut out the shape and windows before ‘colouring’ it with our fine tip glue pen to give it a glossy finish. I also finished off the ice creams with 2 coats of the fine tip glue pen to give them a bit of lift and shine!  The sentiment was from the Suite Sentiments set and was perfect for my gelato card finished off with Copper Embossing powder!

Don’t forget – you can get your very own Tasty Trucks Set with any purchase over $90 whilst Saleabration is on! Just use my handy ‘Shop Now’ button to get your supplies.

I hoped you liked my creation! Continue on to Kathryn’s blog to see her use of the colour challenge! And don’t forget to join the challenge yourself over on our Facebook group!

Keep Crafting!

CTC110 – Party Animal

I have some very exciting news to share with you all! I have been invited to join the team over at CASEing the Catty! Its a weekly blog hop, where every Sunday Night the team CASE different sections of the catty to inspire your creativity!  It’s loads of fun….and you can play along too!

This week is all about CASEing the Party Animal Section from pages 4-7 of the New Occasions Catalogue! (Have you seen it yet? It’s spectacular!)

I absolutely love the Cake Crazy Stamp Set on Page 7 and I needed a female birthday card, so I took inspiration from the card on the left. I love the way it stacks!

My order hasn’t arrived yet with this lovely set, so I improvised using the new Birthday Bright Set available in the Occasions Catalogue on Page 13, to create my very own cake stack card.  Its quite easy to do with the photopolymer stamps – but if you are not confident you can always use the stamp-a-ma-jig!

I did add a little bit of sparkle by using the Gold embossing powder instead of the white and I was pleasantly surprised at how well this stamp set ‘stacks’!

And seeing as I have been taking a break and was keen to get creative again, I decided to make another card using the same set, but this time I used the base of the centre card below for inspiration.

I thought the little banner pieces in the set would be prefect to create a focal point on my card.  I simply lined them all up on a single block and stamped away before applying my white embossing powder!

And let me tell you – that white ribbon in the new Occasions Catty is fast becoming a favourite of mine! It’s the perfect size for card makers!

I hope this has given you some inspiration for creating!  You can now hop over to Jackie’s blog to see what she has created for you all!

Don’t forget you can play along too by using the link tool below or by joining our BRAND NEW Facebook group – CASEing the Catty Sunday Challenge – where you can play along by adding your photo to the related challenge album.

I’m really looking forward to being a member of the Caseing the Catty to help inspire you all!

Twist and Pop Panel Cards – Wow for any occasion!

Hi everyone!

Well it’s definitely drawing closer to Christmas and the rush is definitely real!

Every year at Christmas, I like to have at least one ‘WOW’ card to give to special people – my nan in particular – she LOVES a special card and has requested that I make one for her daughter (my Aunty) this year.

Now I had seen quite a few of these Twist and Pop Cards for a while – they are currently very popular – so I set about finding a tutorial from someone who had made one.  I came across a few that used a full A4 piece cut and scored and inserted into the card.  But when you are trying to run a class, unless everyone remembers to bring their paper trimmers, its a little impractical and time consuming to have everyone take turns scoring and cutting  their cardstock.  I came across a tutorial from Sincerely Rina.  She made a card using 12″ cardstock.  The majority of my card is A4 size, so I altered my card to that so it could fit in a regular envelope for posting. I made one Christmas design and one birthday design, and my youtube clip is another birthday card design.

This first design was using our Blooms and Bliss DSP and Flourishing Phrases Bundle.

The Christmas design was using the Presents and Pinecones DSP and the Tin of Tags Stamp Set.

You can learn how to create your very own over at my You Tube Channel by clicking here.

Measurements are :

Card Base – A4 cardstock cut on short side at 4 1/8″ (4 1/8″ x 11 3/4″)

Card Panel – 3 1/2″ x 10″ scored at 2 1/2″, 5″, and 7 1/2″ and folded from the left – valley, mountain, valley (mountain fold needs to be in the middle)

Folding Mechanism – 3 1/2″ x 8″ scored on short side at 1 3/4″ and mark on long sides at 2 1/4″ and 5 3/4″

Card front base cardstock – 5 3/8″ x 3 5/8″

Card front DSP – 5 1/8″ x 3 3/8″

Insert squares Cardstock – 3 5/8″ x 3 1/2″

Insert Squares white 3 3/8″ x 3 1/4″

Fairy Celebration Toadstool Shaker Card

I’ve got to tell you – this card was soooooo much fun to make!

I had the idea in my head for quiet a while, and when I finally got around to putting in on paper, I was pretty pleased with the result!  It was a bit fiddly and I had to make a few adjustments along the way, but I got there in the end.

Creating a Magical fairy toadstool with an opening door shaker card with My Paper Oasis, fairy celebration, fairy card, magical, stampin up.

For a fairy card, I decided I wanted something a little ‘magical’.  Just a bit special and unlike other cards.  Our gorgeous Fairy Celebration made the ‘fairy’ part simple.  The toadstool was simply made with the door from our In this World stamp set, and the top was cut using our older circle framelits with a smaller circle punched and adhered multiple times on the top – don’t forget to give the smaller circles a quick flick using Wink of Stellar Clear!

Creating a Magical fairy toadstool with an opening door shaker card with My Paper Oasis, fairy celebration, fairy card, magical, stampin up.

The door was the tricky part! I fussy cut the door – leaving an extra 1/2″ along the left side of the door, to act as a hinge. I had to position it on the white card stock, trace around it lightly, and then cut out that piece.  I then slipped the door hinge through the gap and adhered it to the white card underneath.  I stuck my toadstool head on and the from the back of the card, sliced through the top so the door would open 🙂

You then simply make the rest of the card like you would any other shaker card.  I adhered the littlest fairy inside where the door would open and added glitter and sequins for ‘fairy dust’.  It’s super cute!  My niece got this one for her birthday. I hope you like it as much as she did 😉

No Bones About It Shaker Card

I get excited every time I get to pull the No Bones About It set off the shelf to use.  This time I was aiming for something a little different.  I was creating a first birthday card for my nephew.  Now first birthdays are pretty special…I mean…its when parents get to celebrate that they survived the first year – no mean feat I can tell you as a mum of 4!!!!!

But it’s pretty special for the little person too.  I mean – you never develop quite as much in your years as you do those first few. So a first birthday card has to be special right!!!!

Not only that, but I wanted to create something bright and funky for the CASEing the Catty Monthly Challenge this month! The catalogue is full of inspiration to help us create, CASE or be inspired and the birthday section never disappoints.  The projects that have really caught my eye this year are the fabulous bright colours of the Birthday Fiesta suite and the shaker cards!

So I set about to creating a bright, fun card that my nephew will still love in years to come….and who grows out of shaker cards??? They are always a bit of fun! With our brilliant new foam adhesive strips – making them has become so much easier!

Now I don’t yet have the Festive Birthday Designer Paper, so I had to use a recently retired paper (Cherry on Top) that was just as bright and colourful, and those birthday balloons fit the bill perfectly!

No bones about it, shaker cards, my paper oasis, dinosaurs, first birthday No bones about it, shaker cards, my paper oasis, dinosaurs, first birthday

I totally love the look of this overlay effect!

No bones about it, shaker cards, my paper oasis, dinosaurs, first birthday

It was such a fun card to make.  By using two acetate sheets on either side of the square cut out, you can then stamp the solid image on the background piece inside the card, to get the effect I created here. Just make sure you use stazon black ink for stamping on the acetate sheet in the front.

The best bit was – his whole party was dinosaur themed and I had no idea!!!! So it suited the occasion just perfectly!

So go get crafting…

So much fun with Balloon Celebration Bundle

Firstly, I apologise for some of the emails you have been receiving with tiny font.  I am trying to resolve the issue.  In the meantime – if you are unable to read the font, please just click on the ‘My Paper Oasis’ title, and you will be taken straight to my blog post 🙂

Now I need to ask you….Have you got the Balloon Celebration Bundle yet????

I cannot believe just how versatile this set is!  I have been creating so many cards with it – and it is soon very easy to do with this set.

Here is a couple of ideas for you…

This one is a quick and simple one to get you started, and varied just slightly from the catalogue using Pool Party, So saffron and Blushing Bride Inks.

From My paper Oasis; Balloon Celebration; Balloon Card; Balloon Bundle; quick and easy to make

This next one is one of my favourites.  I think it’s so soft and could be used for birthday, thank you, baby or sympathy card…Oh the versatility!

From My paper Oasis; Balloon Celebration; Balloon Card; Balloon Bundle; Birthday Card; Baby Card

Now, I am not sure if you have noticed, but there is the cutest little whimsy ‘fairy’ petal in this set – in two sizes.  When you heat emboss it in white, it gives the softest, delicate look – I LOVE it! So I CASEd the other card in the catalogue to begin with…

From My paper Oasis; Balloon Celebration; Balloon Card; Balloon Bundle; Birthday Card; Baby Card

Can you see those ink spots in the background? Some are using ink colours and an aqua painter, others are using our incredible new Gold wink of stellar pens!  I liked this one so much that I repeated the same, but using my favourite water colour technique…

From My paper Oasis; Balloon Celebration; Balloon Card; Balloon Bundle; Birthday Card;

What do you think? I hope I have helped you decide that you absolutely need this set.  I want to extend to you the same offer I have given to my newsletter subscribers this month.  If you purchase this bundle through me this month, I will send you the tutorials to make these cards!

Happy Stamping

OCC & SAB 2016 Blog Hop Header

Welcome to the ESAD 2016 Blog Hop featuring items from the new Occasions Catalogue ‘Handmade from the Heart’ and the 2016 Sale-a-bration Catalogue. You may have hopped here from Nicole Wilson, or you may be starting here.  I hope you enjoy the projects we have all created for you!

OCC & SAB 2016 Blog Hop ESAD Info

I had lots of fun creating for this blog hop. I am IN LOVE with just about everything in the new Occasions Catalogue!

Water colouring is BIG at the moment and fun to create as you never get the same effect twice.  I love it.  I had a special card to make for my niece’s 16th birthday – so I set to work creating a card that looked a bit special using some of our new products in our Handmade from the Heart Catalogue.

my paper oasis, stampin up, watercolouring technique, ESAD, botanical blooms, number of years

I find water colouring directly onto card difficult. So my favourite technique for watercoloring is by using reinkers and dropping them onto my largest clear block. I add a drop or two of water from my aqua painter and swirl it around on my block. I then add more colours as I desire until I am satisfied.  I then pick the block up and tilt it slightly from side to side (this makes the colours run a little) and then stamp it on to my paper.  You will need drying time with this method, or dry with the heat tool.

I used pool party, blushing bride and watermelon wonder for this card as I was originally going to combine it with the Birthday Bouquet DSP.  But I had a bit more fun with the watercoloring by dropping more ink onto the card and using a straw to blow the ink around – like what we used to do in art in primary school. It was a bit of fun!

I then splattered the card base with some gold glitter, framed it with the largest scallop square framelit, added our newest ribbons and cut the numbers from the Number of Years framelits (loving these!). I stamped and gold embossed the sentiment ‘Dream Big’ from the ‘Enjoy the LittleThings’ Stamp set and cut out the ‘dream’.

Here’s a close up for you –

my paper oasis, stampin up, watercolouring technique, ESAD, botanical blooms, number of years

And don’t forget the inside of the card! I added a smaller piece of the watercoloring to the inside of the card too!

I hope you enjoyed this project.  I would love to hear what you think, so please leave a comment for me 🙂
