Colour INKspiration 35

Welcome to

Colour INKspiration 35

where today get to choose 3 colours from our new Neutrals colour palette!

Stampin’ Up! ® has just had a major colour revamp, so to start off the new catalogue year at Colour INKspiration we’ve decided to feature a Colour Collection for the first challenge each month (2nd Wednesday) until we have showcased them all! The second challenge in the month (4th Wednesday) will be a Pinterest inspired pic as per usual just to mix it up a bit. This month we are starting off with the NEUTRALS COLLECTION and you can choose any 3 colours from that range for your challenge project. We are also changing the rules about what else you can add to the mix; essentially just the Basics – Whisper White, Very Vanilla and Basic Black as well as metallics.

Have you managed to have a good look at our changes to the Colour Families yet?  I LOVE the changes to the colour palettes.  I used to be a Regals collection girl, but now I find I fluctuate between the funky Brights Collection and the Pastels of the Subtles collection.  There are so many new possible colour combinations to choose from and create.

For todays colour challenge, the 3 Neutral Colours I chose were Crumb Cake; Soft Suede and Mossy Meadow.

I hadn’t inked up my Rooted in Nature Bundle yet and I have seen some lovely projects with it – so I decided this colour challenge, with it’s earthy tones,  would suit the use of the bundle perfectly!

Rooted In Nature

My Paper Oasis - Colour INKspiration 35 Neutrals Palette using Rooted in Nature by Stampin Up

I stamped some of the tree in the background using the Stamp Off method before stamping the timber onto a piece of Vellum Cardstock, fussy cutting and adhering over the trees so you can still see them in the background.  Another full strength Mossy Meadow Tree for the front of the timber, some Linen Thread and the card front was complete.

I love the effect where you can still see the trees through the vellum layer!

I hope you enjoyed my project tonight.  Now it’s time to continue along the hop to see all the other great projects made just with Neutrals!

Up next is Elizabeth

And don’t forget to join the challenge yourself!  Just create your own project using three neutrals and post a pic to our Facebook Group HERE!

Stained Glass Technique on Vellum

Hi everyone!

I thought I would pop past today and share my project and YouTube video on how I use the Stained Glass Technique on Vellum to create a lovely Stained Glass effect on stamped images.

I created this card some time ago on a Facebook Live Video and realised recently that I hadn’t posted the information for it! Apologies for that!

I created some special Thank you Note Cards using this technique –

Stained Glass Technique on Vellum by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis with Video Link

I promise – these cards are quick and simple to create.  You can take a look at my How To video HERE .

These cards are our Notecards and Envelopes.  A great value pack of 20 notecards and envelopes, already prescored for you, and available in Whisper White or Very Vanilla to make your card making extra easy!

The piece of vellum for this card front measures 3 3/8″ x 4 7/8″ (or 8.5 cm x 12.5 cm!)

The colours I chose for the Stampin Write Markers where:

Leaves – Wild Wasabi and Pear Pizzaz

Petals – Melon Mambo and Rose Red or Pool Party and Bermuda Bay.

Can you imagine these now created with our Stampin Blends!!! I can’t wait to give those a try!

CTC 137 – Artistic Expression with Rose Wonder

Hi everyone and welcome back to CTC 137.

You may have noticed that I missed last weeks hop.  That’s because I was away on my very first cruise having an absolutely amazing time and a much needed break!  But I am back and ready to go!

I also wanted to say a very big WELCOME and CONGRATS to our new crew members! I am looking forward to playing along with you and all the amazing upcoming guest designers!

This week we are taking our inspiration from the Artistic Expression Section of the Annual Catalogue on pages 132 – 181.

There are LOADS of images to spark creativity this week, so I do hope you play along and upload your creations to our Facebook page HERE!

I found it so difficult this week to choose just one project.  This is one of my favourite sections of the catalogue, with a load of my favourite products to play with.  So in the end, I chose to CASE an image on page 162, using the Rose Wonder Stamp Set, to play with a technique I haven’t used in a while.

This technique is called the Stained Glass Technique using Vellum.

You first stamp and heat emboss an image on the vellum, the turn it over and colour the image on the back of the vellum, creating a stained glass look.  You can colour with markers or sponge the image for the look you desire.  I chose to colour mine with our Stampin Write Markers using Calypso Coral, Watermelon Wonder (retired), Pear Pizzaz and Wild Wasabi.

Stained Glass Technique for CTC 137 using Rose Wonder by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis

I use the different shades of colour to create depth in the image coloured and then mounted the vellum on Whisper White Card to really highlight the colouring.  I then HAD to add some of our new Calypso Coral Ombre Ribbon and some Gold 1/8″ Ribbon and mini sequin trim for some extra sparkle!

It’s a pretty cool technique, so I encourage you to give it a try. It works best on ‘open’ stamps that allow to to apply a fair amount of colour.

Now it’s time to head on over to the lovely Elizabeth and see what she has created for you all!

Happy Creating!

Magical Mermaid Shaker Card

Hi Everyone.

I couldn’t resist popping back so quickly to share another of my Magical Mermaid cards. I told you I LOVED this set! This time I decided to create a shaker card in purple and pink hues.

Magical Mermaid Shaker Card

The base of this card was created during my Sunday Night Live Video on Facebook, where I demonstrated how to create the same background on my mermaid card in the recent CASEing the Catty blog hop.  You can see that one HERE.

I told everyone that I would finish off the card in these ‘New’ colours and show you all.

Well, here it is!

Magical Mermaid Shaker Card by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis, Stampin' Up!, Watercolour backgrounds with video link

This one has so many of our gorgeous new products. The colours are 3 of our new In Colour Range – Powder Pink, Berry Burst and Fresh Fig. And our New Iridescent Sequin Assortment suited this shaker card perfectly.

The Mermaid’s beautiful glossy tail is again achieved by first watercoloring the image and gradually building and blending layers, before coating the whole thing with the Fine Tip Glue Pen.  It gives of such a glossy smooth finish – and no sticky feel AT ALL! Definitely one to add to your tool kit!

For some added bling I popped on a couple of our New Glitter Enamel Dots!

Take a look at my Video HERE to see just how easy these beautiful watercolour backgrounds are to create!

I have an amazing special running for the month of June so you can get a Big Bang with your New In Colours Purchase with some coordinating FREE accessories! Everything you need to start creating right away!

CTC 133 – Love and Sympathy with Magical Mermaid

It’s time for another CASEing the Catty!

This week we are CASEing the Love and Sympathy Section of the New Catalogue on pages 86 – 101.

If we are CASEing the Love and Sympathy section how can you be using Magical Mermaid I hear you ask!  Well remember that CASEing the Catty means to Copy And Share Everything (or Copy And Selectively Edit).  That means we can take inspiration for ANYTHING in those catalogue pages – stamps, layouts, colours, backgrounds, boxes…..anything!

And that means you can too!!!  So take the hop, be inspired, create your own and hop on over to our Facebook page to upload your design straight to the wall – no blog necessary!

I took lots of inspiration this week from the multiple backgrounds that you can find on lots of the cards in this section this week.

Take a look – the backgrounds to lots of the cards are either stamped, sponged, embossed or watercoloured – just like this one ….

So I decided to make a background worthy of setting off a gorgeous mermaid!  My daughter is all about flamingos…before that, it was unicorns, but  I LOOOVVEEEEE Mermaids – they’re kind of my thing.

CTC 133 - Love and Sympathy using Magical Mermaid by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis, watercolored backgrounds, stampin up, embossing paste

I began by watercoloring on a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock using Pool Party, Pacific Point and Emerald envy reinkers.  I then used the ‘waves’ die from the Swirly Scribbles Thinlets to cut a mask so I could use a sponge dauber, versamark and clear embossing powder to mimic the movement of the ocean in the water coloured background. You have to do this a few times! Over that I stamped the seaweed image in versamark and heat set with white embossing powder. I then went back and dropped small blobs (technical term) water over the image, let it sit for a minute before patting off with paper towel

One of the most fun parts though was colouring the embossing paste with a crumb cake reinker and smearing it along the base of the card. Once it had dried I stamped right over the top of it with the Soft Suede ink … did you know you could do that?  It does have to be reasonably smooth to get a good image.

My mermaids tail is also watercoloured using just the Emerald Envy and Pacific Point reinkers.  Even though it was stamped onto Shimmery White cardstock, I still felt it could do with more shimmer. So I hit it with the clear Wink of Stellar Pen before covering it with the Fine Tip Glue Pen and letting it dry!  The result is amazing!!!

CTC 133 Love and Sympathy using Magical Mermaid by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis, Stampin' Up!, watercoloring, embossing paste

Not even this picture can do it justice!  I need to play with more colours – so I’m sure you will see more of this lovely new stamp from me!

Now it’s time to hop on over to the lovely Julia Quinn to see what she has created for you all!

Happy Crafting 🙂

Colour INKspiration 11

Hi everyone! Are you ready for another Colour Challenge???  Well get ready, because we are back for Colour INKspiration #11.

Play along every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month by using the given colours to create your own work of art, and then upload it to our Facebook Group right HERE.

The colours we get to work with for this challenge are Early Espresso, Marina Mist and Soft Suede.

Marina Mist is one of those tricky colours for me – a bit like a love / hate relationship. I love it – it hates me when it comes to using it! Lol.It’s one of those colours that I really struggle with for some reason.

Anyway, I was very grateful that my new order arrived in time for me to have a play with some of our lovely new goodies! And I combined those with some old favourites.  I have been itching to use the new embossing paste, so one way or another it was going to end up on my card.  I did get the decorative masks to go with it, but I really wanted to create my own with one of our lovely dies from the Rose Garden Thinlets.  So I set to work…

Colour INKspiration #11 by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Rose Garden Framelits and Embossing Paste by Stampin' Up!

It’s a bit hard to see on the image, but I have the brand new Sheet Music Stamped lightly in Soft Suede in the background, and then used Timeless Textures to add a more vintage feel, with the flourish embossed with copper.

I used the large rose image from the Rose wonder Dies as a mask, trimmed of the leaves and secured the image in place with a bit of washi tape, before adding a few drops of Marina Mist Ink to a small amount of embossing paste and carefully spreading it over the mask.  Carefully remove the mask whilst the paste is still wet and there you have it!

Have you noticed the little curls to the copper trim bow – it is so easy to do – just wrap it around a toothpick or similar and it holds the shape!  Unfortunately I had to mask a little boo boo with the sentiment –  the card wasn’t going to have one initially, but I ended up with a blue splodge from the stampin write marker when flicking Marina Mist specks over the card front!

Now it’s time to pop on over to Monique’s blog and see how she has used this colour combo!

Cutting Cardstock for Beginners

Hi Everyone.

Today I wanted to share with you how I cut my cardstock to make my basic layers for my cards.

Now I am a quilter at heart, as well as a stamper – so I do work in Inches, which I understand some people are just not a fan off! Lol. But I honestly feel it gives you more even cuts.

They are like anything you learn.  It make be a bit difficult to grasp initially, but easy once you have practiced.

If the video doesn’t load then You can watch Cutting Card Layers for Beginners Here so you can see how I do it.

Here are the card layers that are my ‘go to’ when creating cards.

Card Bases:

Cut on short side of A4 cardstock at 4 1/8″

Cut on long side of A4 cardstock at 14.9cm ( this is the centre of your Australian A4 cardstock)

Layers:

5 3/4″ x 4″

5 5/8″ x 3 7/8″

5 1/2″ x 3 3/4″

5 3/8″ x 3 5/8″

This means that if you want a larger border around one piece of your cardstock, you simply skip to the next measurement.  There are so many ways you can do layers.  Once you are more confident you can really begin to play around with them!

Download the PDF below:

Basic Card Layers

And here is just a little guide to help you with your Inches!

And a couple of layered examples.

Colour INKspiration #10

A big hello to you all!

Welcome back to another Colour INKspiration!  You may be popping over from the lovely Rebecca Scurr, or starting right here! So have a hop around and then come back and create your own masterpiece! We are loving seeing your fabulous creations on our Facebook page – so keep them rolling in!

I am glad to be back this week after missing the last one.  Going to Picture to Page in Pakenham and then having a Biggest Morning Tea Event really kept me very busy!  And as Colour Challenges are my favourite kinds of challenges, I was a bit sad to have missed it!!!

But this week’s Challenge I found just a little bit tougher than usual!

Our colour palette this week are gorgeous Autumn / Wintery Hues with Cajun Craze (yes, dust it off!), Island Indigo, Smokey Slate and Delightful Dijon (retiring colour).

So I set to work creating some Autumn / Wintery cards to set these colours off.  My first card I had a bit of fun playing around with the Shaving Foam Technique again.  It’s a great way to mix a few co-ordinating colours and make those stunning backgrounds.  You can watch my video over at my You Tube Channel HERE to learn how to create your own.

Colour INKspiration #10 by Mel pagano at My Paper Oasis using Colourful Seasons Bundle

I mixed Island Indigo, Cajun Craze and Smokey Slate re inkers into my shaving foam for the background.  I love all the leaves falling from trees in Autumn.  The bright reds and soft yellows!  So I stamped the leaves in Cajun Craze and Delightful Dijon.  I lightly sponged the tips of the Delightful Dijon leaves in Cajun Craze to give them an Autumn feel.  I also used the matching framelits to cut a leaf in Delightful Dijon, and then sponged the edges in Cajun Craze, and I then topped this one off with some our fine tip glue pen to really make it stand out!

Colour Inkspiration #10 by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Stampin' Up!s Colourful Seasons Bundle

The sentiments from the Colourful Seasons Stamp set are just stunning!

I then went on to have a bit more of a play, with a card type I don’t normally do, but I thought I would show you the ned result anyway…because sometimes its all about the learning as we play!

Colour Inkspiration #10 by Mel pagano at My Paper Oasis using Stampin' Up!s Beautiful You and Sheltering Tree

I would love to know what you think, so feel free to leave a comment to let me know!

I do hope you are going to make some time to be inspired and play along too 🙂

Now it’s time to hop on over to Nicole Wilson and see what she has created to inspire you all!

Happy Creating everyone!

Shaving Foam Technique

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m back to share my Stamp it Sunday Facebook Live video on how to create brilliant background using the Shaving Foam Technique!

It’s so simple, so messy and so fun! And just take a look at the stunning backgrounds you can create.  The skies the limits with hundreds of potential colour combinations!

Here is my favourite so far!

Shaving Foam Technique by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Ribbon of Courage Stamp Set by Stampin Up

My boys actually choose these colours – My youngest said his favourites are Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo, then they choose some of the new Powder Pink!  It matched the Ribbon of Courage Stamp Set beautifully.  I was lucky enough to win this at the demonstrator On Stage event! I was one very happy girl!  This one was created with a lovely friend and downline in mind and it has already been sent to it’s new home!

Shaving Foam Technique by Mel Pagano at My Paper Oasis using Daisy Delight from Stampin Up

These two were created using Wisteria Wonder, Flirty Flamingo and our new Lemon Lime Twist reinkers!  Teamed with our Daisy Delight bundle to create some lovely Gerber’s.  You can highlight different colours from your batch of shaving foam.  These two still need sentiments which I will save until the right occasion arises!

Shaving Foam Technique by Mel Pagano from My paper Oasis using Scenic Sayings from Stampin Up

Great for smaller card with big bold sentiments…

Shaving Foam Technique by Mel pagano from My Paper Oasis using Daisy Delight from Stampin Up

Or use the patterned card to create your embellishments!

So many variations! I encourage you to try it!

You will need:

-shaving cream (cheapest one will do)

-something to squirt your shaving cream in to (I used a plastic plate)

-reinkers in colours of choice

-something to swirl your colours

-something to scrape the foam (i used an old iTunes card)

-whisper white cardstock

Take a look at my You Tube Video to see exactly how it is done over at My Paper Oasis.

And then go get messy and have some fun.
